2 piece RMS T56 swap Q's Yes, I know you've heard this a million times
OK, I'm sure you've heard this a million times (and plz don't tell me to search), but what would it take for me to put a T56 (or even a 5 speed, if its worth it) out of an early 4th gen into my '85 3rd gen? My car has a 1983 350 4 bolt mains (not that it matters) out of a Chevy 1 ton puckup. I read about this in the FAQ and I never really read an answer to this. It kinda sparked my interest since my friend wants to put a 350 in the 305TPI he's hopefully buying (not sure how well the T5 will hold up) and now I'm keeping this idea in the back of my head in case I decide to ditch the 700R4 (which I noticed a while ago likes to shift really slow from 1-2 when I punch it but shifts sharply when I'm normally driving it, dunno why). I'd like to use mostly stock parts so if a problem arises, I don't have to go crazy trying to find that one part that seems impossible to get ahold of and pay a rediculous price for.
Thanks

i also have an 85 z28 and i'am currently collecting parts for the t56 swap. I have been doing lots of research on the t-5 and the t-56 and most people think the t-5's don't hold up to well so i decided to buy a t56. To get the t56 to mount up to a 85-or lower year engine which has a 2 piece RMS you must buy a aftermarket flywheel made by centerforce part #700107.PEOPLE RECOMMEND TO BUY A 94-97 T-56 DUE TO THE GEAR RATIOS AND .5 OVERDRIVE.
YOU CAN USE THESE FOLLOWING PARTS FROM THE DONOR CAR.
1) Pressure plate, clutch
2) Bellhousing
3) all wire connections from the donor car
4) shifter assembly
5) cluth fork
6) clutch master slave cylinder assembly
7) brake and clutch assembly(must cut off gas pedal and drill two holes bigger for the mounting of the assembly
8) driveshaft
9) torque arm
PARTS YOU NEED
1) flywheel (part #700107)
2) Transmission crossmember made by Spohn or Skulte
-http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1316
3) Dakota Digital SG-5 (for the wiring if you want you cruise control and ECM to work)
4) Aftermarket speedometer made by Auto meter or a modified tailhousing for the t56 to convert it to mechanical driven speedo.
here some good web pages that i found even though some aren't directly made for an 85 camaro. they have good pictures though and some are helpful even if they're doing it on another car.

all information above is what i found from other peoples facts and it has helped a lot so in return i decided to write my own piece to help someone else out
GOOD LUCK AND KEEP ON CRUISIN

not currently sure about the starter but i believe you can use the one from the donor car or from a t-5 3rd gen 153 tooth.
