How long is a driveshaft for turbo 400

I need to have my local driveshaft shop make me a shaft for my turbo 400 tranny with the short tailshaft. Can anyone tell me how many inches long it need to be from u joint to u joint. I can't measure it for 2 weeks so if some one can tell me that will save me alot of wasted time waiting to get a driveshaft. did a search

Slide the slip yoke all the way into the tranny and pull it back out 1". Measure from the center of the u-joint on the slip yoke to the center of the u-joint on the diff. That's the measurement you need. Anything else is just a guess and may not be your exact measurement.

that may work for you, but funny story time. long time ago i worked in a shop and we made driveshafts. woman comes in on a saturday afternoon with a stick and a drive shaft. said her husband sent her and she needed the driveshaft she had in hand as long as the stick plus around 3" more. can't remember now if we cut it off or added a new tube but we never seen her again so it must of worked.

Shaft will need to be 43-7/8" from center of U joint to center of U joint..

A 1982/82 F body with 3 speed auto has just the right size shaft

You'll also need a th-400 slip yoke if you aint got 1 yet.
