count the splines, why would you want to know? they never changed the spline count on the pinion. are you getting it mixed up with the 10 bolt axle spline count?

All 7.5/7.625 pinions are 27 spline. There are no other options for this 10 bolt.

Axle splines are something different. 1989 and older 7.5" 10 bolts are 26 spline. 1990 and up are 28 spline axles.

All GM 7.5" / 7.625" pinions have 27 splines, like Stephen said; and are 1.438" diameter.

Yes I've done a certain number of them myself as well, over the years; in these cars, as well as others that use the same rear.

90-up axles and the carrier side gears usually have 28 splines.

88-back axles and side gears always have 26 splines.

89 rears could have either; a large majority got the 26s, but a few got the later model stuff. Probably something like 80-85% vs 15-20%.

There is no error in Stephen's post.

i just reread your reply and this is going to be alot easier than you thought, and cheaper. the only big differance between limited slip and posi is the way the letters are arranged. you already have posi if you have limited slip, or you already have limited slip if you have posi.

The spline count never changed even to date? So all 3rd/4th gen gears are swappable huh...for some reason I had the wacky idea that some pinions had 30 splines.

Some do.

Just not any of the ones in GM 7.5" rears.
