hey guys i just bought an ls1 rear complete for $100 from a friend of mine that needed money bad. Well he drained the fluid out of it and such. well i got it back to my place and was messing with it, and if you turn one axle the other doesn't move. I was wondering if this is normal without fluid? I'm going to be putting some gear oil and posi additive but i dont want to spend the money if i'm gonna have to replace the posi unit itself. Thanks for any help.

That would be a peg leg axle. Not a limited slip.

Not necessarily.
The Zexel Torsen units will do that as well.
I've posted this so many times, I'm tired of it; but it never seems to be enough. So here we go again.
The only way to know what's inside that housing, is to take off the cover and look. Period. All else is just guessing. Some guesses have a better chance of being right than others; but they're still just guesses.
If it's a Zexel, it has no clutches; and so, doesn't require clutch friction modifier (posi additive). Don't use it.
