leak coming from torque converter area

I have a 200C and had my transmission serviced recently; fluid flush, filter, pan gasket. Transmission shifts and runs fine but there is a leak coming from the area where the torque converter is. What needs to be done to fix it? Do I have to have the transmission removed?

It is likely a front pump seal if it is leaking from the converter area. It could also be leaking from the torque converter itself, front pump o ring or the pump attaching bolts may be leaking also. The odds are that it is the pupm seal though. Inspect the other areas when the transmission is out of the car. Also inspect the pump bushing. If worn, they allow the converter to wobble, causing a seal leak.

Ok, so they have to pull out the transmission which I'm guessing to fix this will be expensive. It's probably going to be easier to just replace the transmission.

*UPDATE* Aamco just told me they would fix this for $400 CAD, so I guess it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

Replacing it will be easier. Will likely cost hundreds of dollars, but easier. If you are lucky, and it is just a leaky pump seal, It is a $3 part and a couple of hundred labor. I would not run out and buy a new one yet, if I were you.

Easier to replace transmission than to repair the one you have? Yes. More expensive? Yes.

Hope your engine's not leaking too.

Just called a second shop and they want around $600 Cad because they recommend replacing all seasl and the torque converter. According to the guy you can pressure check the converter in water and it may not show a leak, but under high heat a leak may develop, so that is why they recommend it.

After calling 5 difference places, one shop I called will pull the transmission for $200 then it's just parts for the seals.

This sounds reasonable.
