bad th350 mod valve cause third gear issues ?

is really just a quick yes or no question, but you could read past this first line if you have time to:

is there any possibility that a bad modulator valve could cause a third gear issue at all ? in any way?

i know my valve is leaking fluid to the vacuum line, and i need to replace it asap, like hopefully tomorrow maybe, not sure yet

i was told by the PO that the trans was rebuilt about 2-3 years ago, and it is painted blue and the converter looks like a replacement one, not original, and definitely not aged 20 some years(no dust cover) and i believe they are not lying because everything else that they said they had done to it has obviously been done

so i know the trans has at least been out recently, for some reaosn or another, and been at least painted and most likely a new converter at the minimum,

the deal is that it doesnt seem to act like it gets all the way into third gear, unless youre coasting it, not applying torque to it, to accelerate slightly- or more

but it does go into the gear, just doesnt seem to be "locked" into it

also i do not run the kickdown cable, it is totally disconnected

made no difference though, at all

otherwise the trans is fine, shifts drives great, other than the odd third gear

thanks for anything

Doubtful.

On the other hand, it'll cost you about $5, and take less of your time than posting on the Internet, to find out.

Go change the modulator, make sure it's a RED STRIPE one (not a gree stripe, not a pink stripe, not the big black can type.... RED STRIPE ONLY), and see. You already know it's defective. Go fix it.

ok thanks

well i replaced it, seems same, or at least at first

no more blue smoke so thats good and trans fluid stays put now

so thats good too

the valve that was on it was obviusly not very old and a replacement one

so hmm

i put an old one off another tranny on it lol

off an 81 pickup th350 behind a diesel 350 oldsmobile

anyways it takes forever for it to go to 3rd gear but it doesnt do it at an excessively high RPM or anything, it is just picky about when it decides to go into it, and it doesnt seem like it gets weak when you go to accelerate in that gear, like it did before,

but is still a little wierd, hmm
fluid is great bright red and no burning or anything else

so i dunno,

who knows.

thanks for anything else i could try or check
