What is this part? (on auto shifter)

Engine: 2.8L V6 MPFI
Transmission: Beat to heck 700R4
What is this part? (on auto shifter)



Any idea? I think its meant to be together in one piece, and its meant to be on the shifter, but I found it on the hump under the shift plate. Theres a rivet on the shifter I think its meant to go onto.

it looks like the peice that attaches to the shifter button, which allows you to remove the shifter out of park and so on.
