verifing rear gear ratio on 4thgen rear

how can I verify the gear ratio with out pulling the cover. I know on thirdgens they have a code stamped on the axle tube. there is a bar code label with some numbers on it, will that tell me anything

Only three gear ratios on the 4th gen cars.
2:73 & 3:23 on Autos.
3:42 on Manual

Pull the cover:

Count teeth on ring and divide by pinion
or:
Find the gear ration stamped on the ring gear(if its there) and divide.

Or mark a wheel stud and count how many times the yoke turns to complete one revolution of the wheel stud.

Ie 3 1/4 turns = 3:23

3.5 = 3:42

Less than 3 = 2:73

later
