How do I get these off?
I am trying to convert an electric speedo setup on a 700R4 to a cable driven. I got the extension housing off, now how do I get this sleeve and gear off. It looks to me like the gear might be threaded, if so is this conversion possible?

1.) propane torch (not necessary but helpful)
2.) two jaw gear puller (long enough to reach the reluctor ring)
heat up the ring and use the puller to pull it off. GM makes a special tool for this but any long gear puller will work.

One more note. The output shaft will have two holes where the clip for the drive gear goes (the clip has one prong). Use the hole nearest the transmission unless this is a Corvette application. To put the drive gear on, get a piece of pipe just big enough to fit over the shaft and tap the gear up onto the clip. You should reinstall the sleeve. Some yolks have a vent hole in the center and if the sleeve isn't there, it will leak fluid. It's been a couple years since I did mine, but I know I didn't have a puller. If memory serves I took a small ball pean hammer and tapped it toward the rear until it slid off. The sleeve has an o-ring under it on the yolk end. That is what makes it hard to slide off. Like "1981LT1" said, the puller makes it nice.
