Rust on reverse input drum - 700r4

Rust on reverse input drum - 700r4
This is on my donor trans, late 87. I'm slowly disassembling the trans, tagging and ziplocking each part as they come out. I've taken off the valvebody and the first thing I noticed is the band anchor pin was "cockeyed" a bit towards the front.
I got the pump, reverse input drum and input housing out last night, and had left the reverse input drum and housing out in the garage (not bagged yet, was getting late), and this morning I remembered to bag them up, but I noticed a layer of rust or corrosion on the reverse input drum. It seems to be around the outside of where the band would ride, and it would seem that the band itself was cockeyed on the drum. I'll post pics later, but it definitely looks like the band itself was not aligned with the drum. You can follow the mark's angle around on one side of the drum, and a similar mark is on the other side of the drum, but on the forward side this time. it seems like the corrosion happened when the unit sat, because if it was operational I would think the band would have worn it away.
Should I try to remove the corrosion with a high grit paper or just go ahead and replace the reverse input drum?
THis tranny is intended to be on the car for a max of 6 months while I get the time/money to properly do the one thats on my car right now.
I intended to do a master kit, accumulator pistons and springs (1-2 spring is broken), and apply pin (its worn too short).
Could I get away with reusing this drum? The rust/corrosion only seems to be about 1/16th-1/8th inch on part of each side of the drum.

I always deglaze them with fine emery paper anyway. If it sands smooth and is not dished, slap it back in. They are worth $35 used, if you need to swap it out.
