Rear end in a 88

Well I've got an 88 RS with a TH350 in it and I dont know jack about drivetrain or rears. I wanna get some more power to the ground but nothing extreme. My project is to build a 300hp at the wheels car that still gets 12-15mpg city. What are my options for rear end gears that would put some moderate power to the ground...its sad I cant even spin my wheels right now.

More info on the motor you plan to build will be required to make any kind of accurate guess of gear choice.

I used 3:73's and love them. They were a little steep with the stock 4500 rpm redline my LG4 305 had, but my 355 is up in the 5500-to 6000 rpm range and these gears should be really nice once I get the motor broke in and the car out on the street.

Planning on 3" exauhst, vortec heads, mild cam, edlebrock performer intake, holley throttle body. Shooting for 300hp

I myself would go with a 3:23 combined with a 2500 to 3000 rpm lockup TC. If you are not worried about mileage at all, I would (and did use myself) go with the 3:73.
