how to check sevo pin length

can anyone tell me how to properly check the servo pin length without using the gm tool? I know you can also use a dial indicator, but can not find any specs on what it is supposed to be. any help would be great. Thanks

ATSG book says to measure from the end of the pin to one of the grooves on the pin. I used a cheapy digital caliper to find mine is .010 too short.

Measuring the pin is easy. Determining which pin to use with each drum and case combo it a guessing game without the proper tool. Reassemble the servo using your best guess. Push the cover in and out using a hammer handle for leverage. The cover should move in and out approx 1/8 inch or so. Using the tool or doing it by feel are the only 2 options I know of.
