Stock Rear End

Hey guys im new to the board, I have owned to Trans Ams in the past, and 83 and an 84 Recaro Trans Am. Both cars were great and got me hooked on F-bodys. Now after a few years after driving econoboxes im in a position where I can afford to build up the f car Ive always wanted. Anyways im looking at purchasing an 85-92 Camaro or Trans Am, and wan't to know how much power the stock rear end will put up with. Im planning on building either a supercharged LT1 or perhaps a Twin Turbo L98 and using a T56 transmission. I already aquired the T56, however I need to know how much power and tourque I can put threw the stock rear end. Would 550RWHP be too much? if so what would you recommend for a good repacement rear? a ford 9"?

if it see's one set of stickys and a good clutch dump its over. 10 bolts are most comon and are a dime a dozen however they wont handle all that hp stock. Go bigger for that amount of hp. If your dumping 10k into a motor might as well dump a few g's into the rear. Power is nothing if it cant get to the ground.

Right. Ten bolts are useless. Most likely break an axle (I broke the stock one, and a supposedly "stronger" Moser replacement axle). More wise to just go with a 9".

Moser makes a 9" for 3rd gen. That's what I have now, and it's worked great. If you do go that route, you may want to think about pitching the stock torque arm (in a 5 spd, the piece that goes from the transmission to the rear end). Jeg's makes an aftermarket piece that attaches to the floor (tunnel) instead of the transmission. You'll hook like a banshee.

the stock rearend works perfectly for just what gm designed it for.... stock applications lol. The minute a lil to much traction hits with some real power and it will be all done.
