Transmission woes... TH350

Ok so heres the scoop. Yesterday, was working on getting the car drivable. After fixing up a few things, went to take it around the block. Ok so I im idling out of the driveway in reverse, seems fine. Put it into drive, and idle out to the end of the street and go to turn. Now, I give it a bit more gas and then it stops accelerating. Just slips. End up stranded on a side road with Travis while waiting for some help from Sam and Ryan.

Pretty much figured I was real low on trans fluid. Come in and put in a few quarts. Start the car up and get it back to my house. Was still slipping a bit but at least caught.

Take it around the block again after getting the carb adjusted (was bogging). Now its full of trans fluid (or so says the dipstick, checked out a lil over full at hot) Going in gear again, below 2500-3000 it seems fine, afterwards its just slipping again. Shifting seems smooth, it'll go from first to second to third just fine.

I'm figuring I need a rebuild, but I'm just not understanding why its slipping for no reason. Before the car was down, the transmission had no problems with slipping. What the heck could have happened while it SAT??

So you let it idle for a while then ran it through all gears before checking the fluid level?

But since it only slips at a higher RPM that makes me believe that its time for a rebuild.

You pretty much got it. It didn't do this 4 months ago when it last ran. Trans worked fine. Now it sits for a lil bit and it wont catch at higher rpm, makes no sense.
