one wheel wonder
is it possible that my 1984 camaro iroc-z is a one wheel drive dif? i know the diffy is ****ed up because it makes a humming noise and needs to be rebuilt, i also know the previous owner blew out the diffy gears and had them replaced, i dont know what they were replaced with but i know it wasnt done right. also if it is a one wheel drive how much would it cost to upgrade to posi or sure grip rear end?
----------
i forgot to add i know its only driving one wheel because i did a huge burnout yesterday for about 100 ft and its one long tire mark from the passenger side wheel

There's no such thing as a 1984 IROC. Chevy didn't license IROC's name until the 85 model year. So I'm going to assume it's a Z28.
Apart from that, yes it is possible. Lots of 84 Z28s had a one-wheel-peel unit. Most in fact.
A good quality new posi carrier is in the $350-400 range. Good used ones can be had for around half that. I'd recommend an Eaton hi-perf one. Stock ones for that rear (26 spline axles, 89 and earlier) that are still any good, i.e. not completely worn out, tend to be very rare indeed.
A word of warning: DO NOT get an Eaton Gov-Lock!!!! That's the stock unit in alot of S trucks. They may seem attractive because they are so cheap you can practically find them laying by the side of the road. Well, there's a reason they're so cheap (and inexpensive too). It is not suitable for use on pavement, or with any appreciable power. It can be identified by the 2 little weights on their little shafts, visible in the "window" of the carrier.

- I've got one of those "gov-lock" units. Been kicking it around my garage floor for about 3 years debating just throwing it out(3.08 ratio non-the-less, so pretty much worthless) - And yes, most were one wheel wonders, only if it was ordered with the posi option was it posi. Thread Starter

Not to be mean or anything, please don't take this the wrong way, but...
You're on a 3rd gen board. You gotta be careful about posting stuff that doesn't exist about 3rd gens on a 3rd gen board.
Stickers and even body parts don't make a car into something else, by themselves. These cars aren't Honduhs, after all. They're REAL cars, with REAL identities and REAL histories. Not grocery carts with aftermarket stickers. If it's not an IROC, which it can't POSSIBLY be, then don't post that it is. Just tell the truth, and then nobody will jump on you about it.
If you think getting called out for BS about calling something an IROC that can't possibly be an IROC is bad, try posting something about a GTA or some such sometime, and see how hostile the Firebird people get about things like that. Those guys live to find the non-originalities in poser cars.

my camaro isnt really an original anything by any means, my camaro is built from many different camaros/trucks. for example its engine came from a 1978 GM truck. its front clip came from an iroc that was t-boned. im not claiming to know everthing about camaros, or any cars for that matter, im just a newbie at mechanics, ive been takiing college courses on auto mechanics at a local Tech school though, so i am trying here, and saying that people wont jump on me? you kind of did for apparently claiming my car is something that its not. i also added and i quote "i know theres no such thing as an 84 iroc, but its a z-28 with an iroc front clip and iroc written on the sides, it is a z28" i didnt claim after the fact that having the front clip made it in any way shape or form an IROC so i appologize to you oh wize one, guru of the 3rd generation. so im sorry if i commited a horrible crime in the 3rd gen f-body community, i hope im not banished forever so in closing my car is a 1984 CamaroFirebirdTransAm IROC-Z-28-RS-SS
