getting a clanking noise when accelerating in reverse...

it seems when i shift into reverse and hit the gas just a little it will make a clanking sound. kind of sounds like it is coming from the rear. then when i put it back in drive it will make the clanking sound again.

it won't make the sound if i put it in reverse and really baby the gas or just let it roll though. i also have a really hard shift between 1-2 and a slightly hard shift between 2-3. does this sound like the drive shaft? the transmission was rebuilt about 9 months ago after i bought the car...but it always has done the clanking thing...

Sounds like mine, the rearend is going bad. It can also be the tranny mount.

or the torque arm mount may be broken, but you should hear that right under you.

raise the rear of the car and see how much play is in the rear end by rotating the rear wheel back and forth.
Also check your LCA's and torque arm and make sure the bolts are tight.

would any of those things correspond with a hard shift between first and second?
