NO 2ND 3RD SHIFT, 700R4

92 tranny with bm shift kit. it has been running fine forever then all of a sudden one morning, reverse ok, first to second ok, then no third. wont come out of second. checked fluid, still bright red. readjusted tv cable. pulled govenor, looks good. any suggestions ? i read somewhere to jack up rear end put in drive run it up and try to force a 3rd shift, something about blocked passages ?

any ideas im not looking forward to pulling this tranny, im trying to sell this maro (87) so i can finish my 86 build.

thanks for the reply, but a th350 uses vac to shift where a 700r4 has a tv cable. totally different beasts.

How long ago was the shift kit installed? You said "forever" but I dont know what that really means. Either way, losing 3rd and 4th gear is a very common failure on 700R4's, especially on stock ones. Has it been rebuilt before or just had the shift kit installed?

kevin does have a point. 700's tend to burn the 3rd clutch pack. when that happens you loose 3rd & 4th.

thanks for the replys. been on vacation. dont think tranny was rebuilt just shift kit added, got it for $250. worked great for about 6 months with my kid driving it hard every day. a neighbor of mine who owns a tranny shop said its probably the 3,4 clutch pack, cuz its week in reverse also, and they interact some how ? was looking for some quick fix so i can sell the car. son is shipping off to boot camp soon and needs to pay some bills. so now i guess im selling a motor with a camaro bonus.

thanks.
