couple of trannie questions

what does a servo do and why would someone want a corvette servo. also how do you tell what kind of transmission someone may have? are their some kind of numbers on it like on an engine block.

Gm used a few different servos. The servo is a piston that applies to move a pin. The pin pushes a Band, the band clamps a drum. Bigger piston, equals more clamping force. Vette servo is the largest one gm made for the 700r4. The are available new from the dealer or in the aftermarket. Pro-Built is a forum sponsor and can sell you one. Count the pan bolts on your trans pan. If the pan is basically square and has 16 bolts, it is a 700r4. Also known as a 4l60.

good thread!! but what benifits would a bigger servo give over a stock camaro servo? oh, and i don't mean to hijack your thread!!

A bigger servo has more surface area for a more firm, solid pin apply.

a better servo has more power/force to hold the band, thus reducing clutch burn between and in certain gears. - IMO, don't waste your time with the vette servo, get billet. - read the qoute at the bottom of my sig....

alright thanxs for the replies thats waht i needed to know and great quote shagwell, very true when you think about it. oh and johnryananddad1 dont worry about it we all need question answered so if you had a need to ask a question that pretty much has to do with the same thing why not.
