79 formula rear end in a 82 camaro

Will a rear end out of a 79 formula fit in a 82 camaro? I broke the rear end in my camaro and I have a spare rear end of a parts formula. Thanks for your help

It is in no way a direct fit. One large difference is coil versus leaf springs. I guess if you were really creative you could probably weld it in there somehow, but I'd skip that.

There's also no way to attach the third gen's torque arm onto a second gen diff.

not to mention the 3rd gen wheels theselves are different.. ( oddly enough my 80 camaro rims would not fit on my 84 camaro. the lug pattern is slightly different)

GM uses 2 different bolt patterns. 5 on 4-3/4 and 5 on 5. The 5 on 5 is used on pickup trucks and large car models like B bodies. I didn't think any generation F-body uses the large bolt pattern although it's considered a heavy duty option and may be an exception.

like i said it was odd for sure... the wheels would go on... but you could definitely tell that the bolt pattern was off ( the lugs were not really centered like they should be in the lug holes).. so you would probably be best just going to a salvage and getting a rear from a 3rd gen.. (weren't the offsets different too? i never paid attention to that)
