TQ Converter lock up question
83 Z-28, originally had Crossfire Injection.
It now has a carbed 305, and the comp and everything was ripped out. And the TQ lockup doesn't work any more, so I spin around 3100rpm on the highway at 65mph. I think my tach reads slightly high though.
My question is, I really want to get this working again. I have been told I would probably have to hook it up to a 12v source, run it through a relay and a toggle switch, and just flip the switch on once I get to my desired speed.
I think I have the wiring for it, but how can I hook this up? Where is the plug-in on the tranni located? Is there a different way I can do it without a toggle switch, just make it do it automatically?
I really need this, bieng that I travel 200 miles every weekend.. and gas prices suck.

Search bud!
Its brought up at least every few days!
Lockup can be achieved through many methods.
You can use an aftermarket kit that.
You can wire a toggle switch direct
You can wire a toggle that cuts out when brake is applied
You can wire a toggle that only locks up in 4th
You can wire a toggle that locks in 3rd/4th
You can grab a vac switch out of a canadian non computer car
And the list continues...

I like the 1 wire 4th gear only lock up kit. Have one on my own car for years. Nice drivability and works fine.
----------
No toggle switch required with the 1 wire kit.

I don't have time to search for that kit at the moment, I have to go to work.. on a Saturday.
Could someone give me a link to all of those kits, please? Would be highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don't have a link to any of them. I usually wire them myself to suit the need. I have seen them on e-bay though. Run a search on 700r4. You may see it there. $20 bucks or so, if I recall correctly.

If that is still the '83 700R4 transmission then I would try to have it lock up as often as possible. IOW: not just a 4th gear lockup.
The reason is that the '82 through '84 MY 700R4's have no cooler flow when the TCC is unlocked. Even in the '85 though '92 MY 700R4's reduce the cooler flow by almost half when the TCC is unlocked.

That part is the actual lock up solenoid. It comes with crimp ends so it can be spliced into your wiring harness during replacement. Not what you need, unless your solenoid is bad. Then you will need this as well.

As far as I know, it should be good. How do I search for the wiring? It only came up with TQ converters, and solenoids.. no wiring harnesses.
