BTO Trans Questions/Problems
I have a Bowtie Overdrives 700R4 and have been having this problem from the beginning. I bought the level 2 trans and expected it to shift firmly. At low speeds and low load, the trans performs to my expectations, very quick, positive shifts. But once I get past half throttle it changes. The 1-2 shift takes longer and is more shloshy. 2-3 hits incredibly hard.....sometimes. I called BTO and they told me to add more fluid to it. So I added fluid to my already full transmission. I didn't notice much of a change but didn't have time to call them back. Now that I have the time to work on my car, I put the pressure guage on the test port.
From what I've read, at idle- Park should have a low pressure, reverse should be high, then nuetral and OD should be lower. But...when you select 2nd and 1st the pressure should jump. This was exactly the case when I first started my test drive. But as the trans warmed up and I reached my favorite deserted road, the pressure just held a constant 90psi in every gear at idle. Of course, the pressure would instantly jump when I would touch the throttle, no problem there.
Now the problem. I selected 1st gear, and started to accelerate rather quickly, but not flooring it. The pressure guage jumped up to 210psi as I would like to see it(this was around 2500-3000 rpm) after that as rpm climbed, the pressure reading steadily decreased. By the time I reached 5500 rpm, the guage read 120psi. This definately does not seem right, because as i shifted it into 2nd, the pressure held at 120psi. Is this normal?(Keep in mind this is supposed to be a modded trans that will hold up to 400hp.) What should really happen in this situation?
Hope that wasn't too long....oh yeah, I have searched everywhere for the answer and can't seem to find it.
Thanks,
Erik
