swapping T.C. without removing tranny

Okay guys, Someplace on this message board I thought I saw a thread about swapping the torque converter without totally removing tranny. Something about installing LONG tranny/engine bolts and sliding the tranny back enough to remove and install a new converter. I've been search for a hour and have not been able to locate it.

Am I dreaming this up?

if you are going to go through trying to put longer bolts in it you pretty much have it out at that point, it is just as easy to drop the tranny down and get it the heck out of your way, i dont see it saving you any time...its kinda like the cut the hole if the floor to replace the fuel pump deal

haha, i figure its actually easier if its a driveway job to yank the motor.

If you got a hoist/forklift/couple of trees and some rope...

Just pull the motor out of the way, hop in and pull the TC.

For a driveway job i think that would be the easiest...

it wouldn't be possible to slide the trans back on longer bolts. Maybe in a truck, but our firewall wouldn't allow such a thing. Besides, as stated, at that point you already have the trans out, so you'd be doing more work than simply lowering it out and pulling the tc.

JUST UNBOLT IT FROM THE ENGINE LEAVE CROSSMEMBER BOLTED TO TRANNY UNBOLTED FROM CAR LOWER IT DOWN ON A JACK AND SLIDE IT BACK A BIT THERE YOU GO.ITS EASY TO GET TO ALL THE TRANNY BOLTS WITH A VARY LONG EXTENSION AND A SWIVEL FROM AROUND THE REAR OF THE TRANNY.IVE PULLED THE TRANNIES IN MY IROC AND MY NATIONAL SEVERAL TIMES THIS WAY.THESE THINGS ARE EASY TO GET OUT,ITS LINEING THOSE DOWLE PINS BACK UP THATS ALITTLE HASSLE.
