305 flywheel one piece, which flywheel teeth?

for a 350/305 with a one piece rear seal, does it matter what teeeth i use? my starter works for both 168 and 153 teeth.

For a 153 teeth, it 'll accept a 10.4 in clutch

for a 168, it will accept a bigger clutch but DOES that mean I have to use the biggest clutch? Could I use a 10.4 in clutch with a 168 teeth flywheel?

Can someone please enlighten me. I'm lookin for a stock 305 flywheel with a one piece rear main seal and 153 teeth. How much would this cost me? Should I just stop being a chump and buy it brand new at an auto store? I need it ASAP

To fit in a stock bell housing, it MUST BE the 12.8" diameter (153 teeth). The 14" (168 teeth) WILL NOT fit. You'll need the 10.4" clutch.

You'll find that there are 2 such flywheels available; a heavy one for the low perf cars (LG4 & TBI), and a light one for the high perf ones (L69 & TPI). The difference is something like 24 lbs vs 16 lbs.

I haven't the vaguest clue how much they "should" cost. To find out what they DO cost, try www.napaonline.com or AutoZone.com - Get in the Zone! or www.partsamerica.com

on ebay heres the right flywheel, but Is the price reasonable? My father told me I could pick up a used flywheel in the 30-60 dollar range but I haven't seen it yet. People who are selling flywheels on ebay, dont really specify what they have

eBay Motors: NEW 10 l/2" Flywheel Chevy Vette 1-pc Chevrolet 4-speed (item 8076911760 end time Jun-25-06 20:30:42 PDT)

just a question would anyone know if this fly wheel would work from an 84'
eBay Motors: 1984 Camaro Z28 305 350 SBC 5-speed 5 Speed Flywheel (item 8075256311 end time Jun-20-06 12:55:35 PDT)

They both look the same yet its from an 84'
I thought everything was 2piece until 1986, 305 came with a 1 piece rear main seal?

They "look" the same; however, both the big hole in the middle and the bolt pattern for the 1-pc RMS motor, are smaller than those features for the 2-pc. They look very similar, but if your eyeball calibration isn't perfect, you'll have trouble spotting the difference.

The 84 will NOT work on a 2-pc motor. Forget that one.

The reason the price on the one is so high, is because he put the magic "V" word in the ad copy, right there on the listing title. It's an unwritten law of hot-rod parts pricing: anything that has the "V" word on it is automatically worth twice as much, even if it's identical in every way and even the same part number and otherwise completely indistinguishable from the more lowly cars like ours. (speaking strictly for my own...)

Thanks for the help. I gave in and just bought that new one for $170 off of ebay. I got f**ked that its a Vette part too but oh well. It better be light, like it claims! Thanks for the help!
