it all depends on your abilities. I would rate it as a 2, maybe a 3, but that's coming from someone who is gutting everything uni-body(floors, subframes, firewall, etc...) and building all new. -

In my eyes not even worth the hassle.A fully built auto will smoke a stick all day long.

If you gonna go through the hassle, why not go 6 speed? 5 speed wont make that big of a difference.

To answer the question, I'd put it at a 6-7 if you've got good skills. If you have a hard time with a tune-up or brakes, that bumps it up to about a 43. Don't forget there is a difference between getting it done, and doing a nice, clean, factory type install

id say it's about a 6-7 also, to me putting the pedals in was pretty easy, it's pretty much all mapped out on the firewall for you..... Dropping the auto was kinda hard (by myself) there's some bolts that are hard to get to, get some swivels, atleast two, putting the t-5 in was a snap, remember to get the starter, and the crossmember stuff too, i wanted a 6 speed as well, but everyone i talk to says they use the 6th gear once in a blue moon, not worth it for the price, five is good, go for it. I did it and id never dropped a tranny before........

kinda like the guys who claim stroker motors are so great, Then why are the really fast guys running around 3.50 stroke? Large bore, small stroke, makes more power, more reliably.

I hate to say it - but I think its a pain in the ***... I've still got that damn pedal assembly hung in there and still havent' drilled the bastard holes.
To do it over I would have sold the T56 that came with my LT1 and bought a probuilt 700r4.
Why did I have such a hard time? I don't know, I guess I'm an idiot.. but total PITA and I regret getting into it.
I think the pedal swap portion is the toughest part, and hopefully my opinion will change when I finish it out...evil job though, even with the seat out.. maybe if I wasn't a fat *** that would help too!

I have no regrets doing my auto to 5 speed swap and I'd do it again in a heartbeat since I love manuals.
Pedal swap is kinda tough since the space is so small but just take your time and take breaks if you get stuck. that is what I do so that I don't get frustrated and start throwing things.

Axle/Gears: good question...
The pedals will prolly be the hardest part, since its such a tight area. Mounting the bellhousing and T5 is easy.
