Bad TC, how long can I drive like this?

It's come to the conclusion that I have a bad TC. automatic 700r4 with OD. It shifts very sluggishly, high rpms between shifting, switching gears from P - R/D etc. and vica versa takes a full 3+ seconds to lurch into gear. So far it's been only this problem, for a month now, and I wanted to know how long is safe to drive like this. I need it to get me throught he summer just from home to work/school and back. I plan on selling it, in which case it will be the new owners problem (obviously I will tell them it has a bad tranny and needs to be checked out). Any ideas? I can also give more info if needed.

Are you sure it's not a clogged filter

Had one doing like you described ,I droped the pan changed the filter filled fluid back up and it fixed things right up . not saying it's your problem but is about the cheapest and most practical place to start .

TV adjustment and a service wont hurt. Most likely it is just a throttle valve (TV) adjustment you need here. The how to is in the tech articals and if you do a quick search you will pull up quite a few threads on the matter that will help.

I read the article
https://www.thirdgen.org/detent
about the TV adjustment, but I can't seem to find the "Metal Tang (B)."
Mine is also a 2.8 V6 so it should be pretty close right? I'm lost, I want to know how to do this but Im still new to it all. This comes off the carb right? I put a new carb in with my brother so I know that much. There are two cables, one on top one on bottom. When I push the throttle, one goes in and the other comes out (you know what I mean). Sorry for sounding so stupid

Oo I found something else out. I don't know what it all means but I found it out. I took off the air filter and looked at the carb (2bl). I started the car and it did it's usualy high-idling. I got out and looked and pulled the throttle. One of the valves was half-open, and I know when I pull the throttle it opens all the way and it revs. So by process of elimination, shutting it would slow down the idle? Yes it did. I don't know what that means but when I push it down manually it goes to a more normal idle rate. Am I doing something wrong here? Is it supposed to happen?
