lately my tranny seems to be acting funny.say if i am in second gear it seems like it is taking to long to shift into third.my rpm's are alot higher between shifts so today when i was in second i thought i would try something.i put it to the floor, it hesitated for a second and then went in first and then it went in second like one second later.it seems like what ever controls the shifting is acting funny.i have a 700r4 with 200,000.i am going to rebuild soon and would like some input on transgo kits ,shift kits, servo's,torque converter.i am putting in a 355 with 400 horse and a 268 cam.help on some or all questions would help me on some decisions

Common problem. No easy solution. More than one cause.

Possible maladjusted TV cable is the cause you hope for, since it doesn't require you to rebuild the transmission.

Old or contaminated fluid, possibly in combination with a clogged filter could cause low line pressure and a very slow 2->3 upshift.

Valve body problems, a weak/failing front pump, worn forward and/or 3-4 clutches (rebuild time).

it hesitated for a second and then went in first and then it went in second like one second later.
Normal operation when you floor it. Basically the TV cable is connected to the throttle. If you gun it, the TV cable contracts fully, telling the transmission that you have it floored. It downshifts to the next lower gear until the line pressure overcomes the TV pressure, which causes an upshift. If you happened to have floored it at such a time that the 2->1 downshift caused the motor to be up at like 5000RPM then the line pressure will be such that within a second or two it will cause an upshift.

However if your TV cable is too tight or too loose than the transmission has the wrong idea about where the throttle is at. Again, search is your friend to find the TV adjust procedure.

In short, check and properly adjust the TV cable (search is your friend), then change the fluid/filter. If no change, then rebuild the transmission.

Yes, the TV cable can stretch over time, be broken and you having never touched it.

Did you press the gas pedal or just tweak the throttle at the throttle body under the hood?

You should be pressing the gas in the car since the TB allows more movement than pedal push allows.

Your actually doing it almost exactly right, your problem is one of the other causes I listed above.... rebuild time if the fluid/filter doesn't do it. I suppose it could be a broken (1 or both of them) accumulator spring, and thats in the valve body, but the 2nd one isn't easily accessible.
