drivetrain advice

my car is gonna have about 450 hp, is going to be mainly a strip car, and i plan on using dot drag radials or dot "cheater" slicks. i am thinking of either
- buying a moser 12 bolt rear end and using the stock trans with a manual valvebody and aftermarket converter, and a monster trans cooler
-or getting a th350 now then doing the rear later
i am wondering how long the trans will last if i go the first route. if it will go a year or so that will give me time to save for a new trans.the trans in question is a 1992 model. thanks for any advice
