700r4 shifts out of 1st automaticaly

My 700r4 shifts out of 1st even if i try to hold it into 1st gear manually - is that correct?

any way to stop that from happening? what controlls that the computer?

Transmission: 700R4 - Stage 3 Fixed Pressure
Axle/Gears: GM 3.08 POSI
its designed to do that. i believe the govenor and another of the transmission componants are responsible for this. so no you cant easily change this. also the computer has no contro over the transmissions in our cars they are controlled by a TV cable. on another note be glad that your transmission does this. the one in my 91 rs didnt and i accidently downshifted manually to 1st instead of second and i blew out second reverse and 4th gear. 3rd gear went out shortly thereafter.
i believe that teh transmission is designe to shift out of 1st at 38 mph regardless of shifter selection(assuming the regulation is working taht is). its better for your trans.

put a corvette governor in there, that will get you higher than 5000 rpm, but yeah its a safety feature

Installing a TransGo shift kit eliminates that behavior.

Right, either the retail kit or the 700-2&3 reprogramming kit, not the 700 SK or 700SK Jr.

Changes oil pasages in the valve body to give it different shifting characteristics.


Thieirs gotta be 50 things you can do on these to change shifting!
