What does a flexplate do?
Hello....maybe silly question, but I just dont know what it does.
Recently had engine installed (305 to 350).
Engine seems to bog down under load. I noticed today that my rpms went to like 3000 under acceleration and I wasnt really getting any power. Didnt exaclty feel like transmission slip. It was kind of weird. It felt like there was some power behind it.....it just didnt rev up and come down, it just felt really hesitant.
I didnt know if it might have anything to do with the transmission or not (just rebuilt last summer). Thought maybe the bellhousing bolts werent tightened enough or somethign flexplate related, as i bought a new one for the swap.
It might be fuel related. Installed a afpr and dont know if the shop adjusted the fuel pressure correctly. I thought they would have but then again, the timing was 8* off and the ignition rotor was broken when I got it back.

The flexplate is a round metal plate mounted to the back of the crankshaft. Around the outside is the ring gear for the starter to crank the engine over. The torque converter bolts to the flexplate so that the engine can spin the outside shell of the converter.
About the only thing that can go wrong with it are broken ring gear teeth or the flexplate is cracked. A cracked flexplate will make a ticking/knocking noise. The torque converter bolts can also become loose and make bad noises as the bolts rattle around in the holes.
