WEll here it goes!!
I brought the car home from the exaust shop and took it off the trailer.. did a test drive sounds nice--60's style rumble--
welll I parked the car and then 2 wweeks later (today ) I went to start sanding so I can paint the car, and I could push the car while it was in park, both forward and backward. the tranny made a clunking noise about every 8 inches of pushing. the tranny acted just fine when I test drove the car, also the shifter is in park and the cables are tight for the shifter and TV cable.
Is it possible that the tranny broke sitting there? or could the TV cable have come out internial to cause this to happen. in 35 years I have never come across somthing like this before.
later and
thanks for your time

It might be that the shifter cable has come out of adjustment (there is some adjustment where the stock cable meets the shift lever at the transmission), and it is not all the way engaged into Park... The clanking you are hearing is the parking pawl clicking on the rotating assembly.
I'd try removing the cable from the shift lever, and moving the shift lever to reverse and then back to park manually (with the rear wheels on jack stands)... Then see if the problem is still there..

- factory cables are notorius for having issues. Just because the shift is in park doesn't mean the trans is....
