Rear-end gears for an '88

Hey all - a few easy questions about my '88 SC:

Rear end gear is 3.08 posi, I beileve (I jacked up the car and turned the wheels - both turned from either side, so that makes it a posi, right?).

I've got no tranny. It was originally equipped with a T-5 manual. I'm going to a 700R4 (hopefully). In that year car, they used 2.73's with the auto trans. Should/can I change the 3.08's to 2.73's? Leave it like it is? What will be the result of not changing when I put it in?

Thanks,
J

Dont put 2.73s in your car. You will have less performance for maby .5 mpg if your luckey.
