I'm sure this has been done; and over done, but I'm looking for suggestions as to what gears give pretty much all around performance, as well as manageable gas mileage. Right now I have the stock 2.73's and want something that will allow better 0-60 times as well as better 0-80 acceleration. Any ideas?

 

well, gears are a direct link in the balance between ecomomy vs. performance. what you need to find is the balance between where you are (2.73) and what is generally considered the max for street vehicles (4.11). the 3.42's that were optionial in some iroc's and g92's are a good middle ground. personally a better option is a set of 3.73's. use the tech calculators and plug in the different options for gears and see what effect it will have on the rpms vs. speed. the economy will go down as the gear ratio goes up, but not linearly. reason for this is that the higher gears actually make it easier for the engine to move the car...like downshifting does. this only goes so far, because it takes more throttle to keep the rpm's up. the gear change will also affect your speedometer as well. be happy to explain more if you have any other ?'s.

 

3.42's are great for daily drivers.

 

3.23's or 3.42's even 3.73's are ok but not if u want top speed

 

3.42 are perfect imo
