Loud Bang from rear 1-2 shift

My car has been out of commission for the last month or so. Just got it on the road last weekend, sure beats the 4 banger Sunfire beater I have been driving.. Anyway.

Tonight on my way home from work, there is a spot I have to do a U turn on a busy road. Got some room, and floored it. As the car shifter from fist to second, the car used to make the tires bark, well tonight instead I heard a loud metal to metal bang noise... My tranny does have a stage 2 shift kit.. So I'm wondering if I broke the rear gears, or something?

Anyone with any thoughts on the matter?? Thanks

Were you able to drive it home? Does is still shift up through the gears? What else can you tell us about how it behaved after the "thump"?

If I keep my foot out of it, IE drive it "normal" it is fine. If I floor it from a dead stop it makes that bang noise and "feels" like its slipping for just that moment, then it seems fine, until it shifts, then it does that again...

I just went out for dinner and a test drive. It seems that the noise and the "bump" I feel when this happens is only on the passenger rear. Could it be the axle slipping???

Check the transmission mount first. They often break.

Did you replace it with rubber or polyurathane?

Tsk, tsk, tsk! You coulda bought a poly mount by now with all the money you've spent on the worthless rubber ones! I managed to break the rubber ones with my anemic 305 TBI. Put a poly one in and haven't had a single problem since. Definitely a good upgrade!

After replacing my rubber one with a poly one, and not liking the vibration, I went back to a rubber one. I broke it within 500 miles (WOT tuning)
I replaced it with a tougher LS1-style mount. Let's see how long this one
lasts.
