Built 700R4 + rear end suggestions?
Hey guys, I am planning out my project car and I was looking for advice on a transmission and a rear end. I was told to keep an automatic for drag racing, so I am going to go with the 700R4, is it cheaper to get mine rebuilt and beefed up.. or buy a new "good for up to 500-600 horsepower" one for 1500-2000$?
Also with the rear end, I am wondering what "bolt" I should get. Should I get a Ford 9" rear end? I heard they are the toughest.. what will they handle power wise?
Thanks

A 700r4 can be a great street/strip trans with the right parts. There are few shops that really have a clue when it comes to building one properly.
- If you're just gonna drag race, switch to either a T350 or a T400. The t350 is lighter and has less reciprocating weight and is fine for most applications, the t400 is the stronger, but unless you need it, it just creates more hp loss to the tires and its heavier.
Yes, a 9" rear is a strong unit, but requires custom mounts or buying the 3rd gen specific, aftermarket housing to "bolt-in" to our cars. A 12-bolt would be another option, but same deal, requires specific housing to fit the suspension.
- hit the search key. The info you're looking for has been asked many times before, so you'll find more info searching than anyone will re-post.
