Need help knowing how to redo gears.
Ok I have a 5.7 liter 350 in a 83 camaro. I want to redo the gear ratios because my car isn't using the full power of the engine. For example each time it shifts it dosn't have that jump like it should and it dosn't use but about half of 2nd gears power. Can anyone please help me with this? Thanks.

if you were to change the rear gears you first need to know what ratio you have and what you want. Is the car for street or race? that will determine how low of a gear set you want. 3.42 are probably best for street, i have 3:73 which are nice to. to get a snappier shift get a shift kit from b&m or equivilant. i dont know off hand if you have a 200r4 or a 700r4 trans but you can get a tv plunger kit that allow you to cruise at high speeds in overdrive and a servo swap on the trans to a corvette style servo will help too.
changing the rear gears is a process all in itself. if you buy a complete kit from richmond or equivilant most times they will send an instructional video with the set to help with the process if you want to do it yourself. you will need access to a machine shap or a press at home to change bearings and adjust pinion spacing, as well as a dial indicator setup to check back lash adjustments once the gears have been changed. you need to take your time and be confident in what you are doing or you could have a rear mess in your hands
hopefully this will get you started
