stall question

my brother in law just had his tranny rebuilt with a shift kit and he went ahead and got a 2500 stall torque converter too, i thought with a stall it would act like normal unless you got on it at a red light but when he is driving in overdrive in never gets below 3k, normally at 70 in overdrive hed push like under 2k and now at 60 in overdrive hes pushing 3k, do stall torque converters never let the rpm down below the stall rating even if you are in 2,3,or 4th gear.

sounds to me like either his tach is off(factory?) or his new converter doesn't have/isn't locking up.

Well i know the tach is off because when he stands on it, the tach goes to 7k and i dont think a tpi pulls well above 4500 let alon 7k but it dosent feel like its locking up either.

You should feel the tc lock-up, if it is a lock-up tc. - if the tach's going to 7k , then it isn't telling you anything believable....

Especially on a high-stall converter.
