so i have a 91 firebird with a 700r4 in it, and its bad, well my couzin gave me a 700r4 tranny with 60,000 miles on it. It came out of a 1988 chevy half ton truck it had a 350 in it. will this work or not, i hear the tail shafts are a little differnt, but is that it?
thanks

that would require the disassembly of both units since the output shafts are different between the two. the shafts can't be switched any other way.

the worth is up to you. other than the shaft and shaft housing, there isn't much difference. you could use one for parts. i would still do it as a rebuild. full seal kit, new frictions, shift kit, and a new torque convertor. if you have one or both apart, no sense half ***ing it.

alright, well it beats taking it to a tranny shop! how much would i be looking at for me to do it? sorry for all the dumb questions! the tranny in my bird now doesnt slip, it just takes like 5 seconds to go into gear! so thats why my intent was to put this one in.

if you can do the labor, it shouldn't cost more than $200- $300 dollars for the friction material(band included), seals, convertor, and shift kit. look for PRO BUILT AUTOMATICS on this site. i believe he sells a kit that is a shift kit and full rebuild kit all together. he may even have torque conv. at a reasonable price.

alright, does anyone have a clue why the tranny in my firebird takes so long to go into gear? it doesnt slip, just takes about 5 seconds to go into gear.
