Upgrading rear end question?

Im looking to upgrade my stock (94) rear in my 92 Z28. Its a 4th gen rear and now I want a 12 bolt or something to handle my 500 hp 383 at the strip. I guess Im not looking for the best rear out there but something that wont break at the strip when I go. I have a T-56 and need 4.10 gears in it. Anyone have any "stay away from these rear end" storys? Thanks in advance.

Either a 12-bolt or a 9". You can make your 10-bolt take that kind of power, but you'll have as much in it, and it'll still be a 10-bolt. A 12-bolt is lighter than a 9", so that route should technically be the better of the two, plus I've heard it fits the car better than the 9". - I've never put a 12-bolt under one of our cars, but I have messed with the 9". No actual fitment issues, just some areas that are tighter.

If you decide on a 12 bolt or a 9", both will have to be aftermarket bolt in diffs. You won't find a junkyard diff to install because of the third gen's torque arm suspension.

Buying a complete 12 bolt or 9" will set you back about $2500. You can go a bit cheaper by buying the 9" housing with axles then install your own center section with gears/carrier which can be found locally. The housing with axles is around $1000.
