Rebuilding/Building a new rear end, parts info

I just got a disk brake rear end out of an '84 Z28 and it has 3.08 gears and it does not have posi-trac. I wanted to do some swapping and build me a better rear end. The first question is, if i went with 3.73's what kind of carrier would i need and where? I want to go with posi-trac of course and where could i get these components, what manufacturer do you recommend? I would need the gears and a new carrier, where/what do i need for sure? I'd also like to replace all the bearings as well, so who would i go to for that? Thanks!

Transmission: T10, hurst shifter
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt, true-trac, 3.73
Summit, randys ring and pinion, jegs, etc etc etc will have the parts.

Some non-racing 3.73s would work well. Say $200
Use a 3 series carrier. Auburn or Eaton are the big names, budget $400 for the posi unit.
A master install kit will have all the shims you need, along with carrier bearings, pinion bearings, pinion seal etc.

Probably have to get the 'wheel bearings' and seals seperate.
I'd recommend a girdle and a solid pinion spacer while you're at it. ratech 4111 is the spacer, summit makes a good cheap girdle, $140.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Gears = ~ 200
Install kit = ~100
Carrier (Eaton HP for example) = ~400
Axle bearings = ~40
Brake maintenance = ~?

Total = $750 ON UP

Now:

Why would anyone in their right mind, put ALL THAT MONEY into a rear, and STILL have only a 26-spline setup with the old crappy Saginaw brakes?

Don't waste your time and money. Start out with a better core. This is about like putting a $10,000 paint job on a Kia Rio. Doesn't matter how slick the paint is; underneath, it's still a Rio. Same deal here. Spend your giga$$$$ on something GOOD, instead of that thing.

"Free" and "paid for" cores aren't always either the least expensive OR the best way to get something good as an end product. The "core", i.e. the thing your'e rebuilding, is the CHEAP part; not the expensive part. Sell that POS to some "greater fool", and go get something yourself something better as a starting point, like a 98-02 one. It'll already have 28-spline axles, might have a posi, might have better gears in it already to where you won't really have to change those at all, and it will CERTAINLY have better brakes.
