I have an Iroc, with what I would guess to be the 700r4, and have always wondered about this. If I roll full throttle through first, it'll go to about 6500 rpm before it shifts. If I pump the gas around 5500 it'll shift, but I was wondering if this was normal.

Sounds like your factory tach reads WAY high, as per usual.

 

thats what I would have though but we checked it with my uncle's code reader (it does the full diagnostic read out) and it was reading right. all the other gears shift around red line at full throttle, but its just first that runs that high

 

6500rpms from a 350 seems unhealthy. transmission may be on the way out, or TV may need adjustment.

my uncle, who used to have to car, said that he thinks that it has a shift kit, but never knew how to find out. what should I look for?
