B&M Shift Kit for 700r4

Ok I am going to buy one of the B&M Shift Improver kits for my 700r4 trans I just want to know what some people think of this kit and does it work good. Also how hard is it to install when the tranny is in the car.

Some love it, some hate it. It is cheap and somewhat easy to install. The transgo kit is more money, but a better kit. It is very complicated to install compared to the b&m.

I have the B&M kit in my tranny and I love it! Has real quick snappy shifts. Not very hard to install the kit comes with very good detailed instructions.

I would not use the B&M in any 700R4. The HD Trans-Go Shift with Corvette servo, is somewhat simpler than the Performance Shift kit from Trans-Go, and will give better results than the B&M valve body kit.

I was looking at eBay Motors: 700 R4 4L60 Corvette Servo /.500 Boost /Shift Kit (item 250042668839 end time Nov-01-06 05:00:38 PST) and was wondering how hard exactly it is to install. The trans in my car was just rebuilt and i wanted to make it a lil bit better, since i want to swap a new engine in and am looking at a lil below 400HP. any suggestions?

Not too hard at all really. Just so long as you read the directions and take lots and lots of pictures so you remember where to put everything.

easy to install, gets the job done(somewhat), but is most deffinitely not the proper or best way to do it.
- If you want it done right and you want your trans to last, look into either one of the Transgo kits or the Superior kit. They do it the proper way and will improve trans life, not shorten it......

do a search, this has been covered many times before......

several people have the kit. It is a cheap, effective way to "improve" you shifts quickness, but it can/will also help shorten your trans' life.
It does improve shifts, but not in the proper way. It is well know for creating "bang shifts" - jerky type aggressive shifts at all throttle positions. This will slowly kill your trans. Many people claim that there is no problem with this, but at part thottle, there isn't as much pressure and clutches will slip. It also pounds the planetaries EVERY gear change, leading to premature wear of the gears & pins. - Anyone who builds strong performance transmissions will(or has already - Dana) tell you to stay away from it for good reason.

- why did you ask our opinions if you already had your mind made up to buy it?

(not trying to be an azz here, sorry if it comes off that way)

b&m kit

I have the B&M kit in my truck and I don't like it. When this trans dies it will either get a transgo kit in the next one, or I will put a th-350 in it. 1-2 shift is like getting hit with a sledge hammer (really sucks in the snow) and 2-3 shift sometimes, and 3-4 shift is firm.

I still have the B&M kit in my car and I like it.If I keep the car in overdrive it only shifts hard with a bit of throttle.if I leave it in regular drive it bangs in every gear and even when down shifting it seems to shift alittle hard.

I bought the kit on ebay for 25 with shipping new and it is like 64.00 at summit so I got it I might not put it in I just might resale it for more money I thougth i would ask a few people before putting it in also the car is not a daily driver so I am not worried about wear on the trans all i do is race it an the weekends.

If all you do is race it it's going to take more than a shift kit to make a 700r stay together with decent power. Not stock power, but anything decent.

You bought it cheap enough that for a race only app, it will be an ok "improvement". The pump spring will help apply pressure and the accumulator sleeves make for super firm shifts, but, as I said, will kill the trans. - If all you intend on doing with the car is racing it, then put the B&M kit in and go with it. Then start digging around a bit for a t350 or t400(depending on the power level you intend on getting to).
