What is this?

What is the object inside the rectangle in the picture below? It's attached to the tranny tailhousing and runs below the driveshaft input. It seems to be secured to the torque arm mount. Btw, this is a 4-speed manual tranny on my Firebird.

I guess what I really want to know is if this will need to be transferred to the new tranny when I install it? I'm converting to a 350 carbed engine with a th-350 transmision.

It's a weight, that acts as a vibration damper.

You don't need to preserve it.
