Blowproof bell in a third gen???

Has anyone used a Lakewood blow-proof or similar bellhousing in a third gen? I know I will need to fab a slave cyl bracket, but will it fit in the tunnel? What about header clearance? I still need to buy headers, which ones work best with a stick?

Are we having fun yet??

Someone on here had some difficulty with a Lakewood bell housing awhile back. From what I remember, there weren't any clearance issues, but the quality of the part itself was sub-par. By that I mean that the holes weren't quite indexed properly causing a mis-alignment of the trans to the engine, and not enough penetration of the input shaft into the pilot bearing. I think it depends on if you are using the block plate as well. You may need the Lakewood adjustable pivot ball and a longer throw-out bearing. You can get it with a slave cylinder bracket for our applications.

a "blow proof" bellhousing made for our application will have the slave cylinder mount made on it. - The biggest issue with the SFI bellhousings is that they hang lower under the car, because they have a large lip on the bottom of the bellhousing for bolting a blocksaver plate to. The lip hangs quite low and can scrape the ground. If you cut/grnd the lip off, the bellhousing is no longer SFI cert. - I have never personally seen the issue of not fully engaging the pilot, but many have problems with trans alignment with them. BUT, that's why they tell you to check alignment and use offset dowl pins if neccessary.

Cool. My biggest concern was clearance in the tunnel and around the headers.

I have been running a Lakewood for several years now. No problems. It does hang down lower than stock and my car is lowered so I have taken advantage of the self-leveling feature .

I am running shorty headers so can't help you on that one.

Scattershield is always a good idea though. I like my legs.

I have had my Lakewood (15015) in my car since '00 with 0 problems or complaints.Yeah it hangs low, I trimmed mine though and never had a tech question it at the track. You should always index the bell to the crank...stock or not.

I run mechanical linkage so the slave I can't comment on.

I ran SLP shorties and Y pipe for years with no clearance issues, and now run Hooker 2210's and the first 3 test fits to do other mods to them has shown me 0 clearance issues with the bell as well. They are not even close to it.

The slave should hang in the exact place, so if the headers clear a factory bell, it should be no issues. I had no issues with the headman LT's and my Mcleod, but it was a standard (non- 3rd gen) bell and a custom mechanical clutch.
