need help ASAP about a rear end switch
i currently have an 89 rs camaro, i been looking to get a psoi rear end or some 3.73 gear's , well i currently work with a good friend of mine who has a uncle that has a 1986 monte carlo. Now i asked him if it had posi rear end and what gears it had , he dont know so to test if it had posi i was gonna pull a little burn out but his dauter who crashed it ran the gas tank dry , so were going back later today when he puts some in.
i need to know if the rear ends its self are compatable , AE swap the gears or swap the rear end
i been looking on google for stock monte caro's to find what gears he has
i think my rear end is a 9 or 10 bolt the monte is an 8 bolt but the guy thinks it ha posi , i dont realy wanna go to my car casue its down the block casue some one stole my parking spot but far as i know its compltly stock and so is the carlo , it is a 4.3 v8 i believe
any help much liked , for 50 bucks for the carlo with front end damage its worth looking into , nothings majorly damaged and we have a 400 engine already lined up we planed on racing at te tracks with a th400 after we gutted toobed repaired and fix the frame (monte's know for there rear frame rotting away and this one is no different)

this has been answered many times, a search will net you more results than anyone will re-post....
- The monte rear will not bolt in. Only 82-92 f-body rears will direct bolt-in, 93+ will bolt in, but require different wheels to correct for the extra width. If your car is a 10-bolt, then the gears and carrier(posi) will bolt in place, but depending on year of both cars, the axles may have to be changed. Early model 7.5" 10-bolts had 26 spline axles, later model had 28. Depending on which each is, if your factory axles are the opposite of the new carrier, you will have to buy/find the correct axles. - If your car is a 9-bolt, then nothing will interchange. - There is no such thing as an 8-bolt.
