Slow response on gas pedal
I have a 1986 Trans AM. V8 5.0 FI TPI. I am the 3rd owner and the previous 2 I can't say treated the car well. The automatic transmission was rebuilt before I bought the car. I get slow response when I press on the gas pedal trying to get from 1-10MPH. After 10MPH give or take the car takes off and drives fine. Is this normal for an old car like this and is there any kind of matenience I can do or tune up or fluid change that will help me. Anytihng besides change my transmission or could it be something besides my transmission? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
RB

what is an SES light? Already did the oil change and new battery and new radiator, new spark plugs and decent wires were already installed before i bought it. I just don't like waiting 3seconds before I actually start mioving especially if I'm trying to get out of a parking lot before more traffic comes.

yes the engine coems on after driving for a few minutes then doesn't pop up again till i drive a little more again. A mechanic friend said it may be my distributor cap/mechanism. If its burn out or damaged or even if the wires for the spark plugs are kinda bad the car will have a similar problem to build up power to go. then the weight of the car helps push and less strain on the electrical system. I'm going to look into it. I got a 44 engine code and i'm looking it up right now.
