Max tire width, stock wheel well,possible with stock axle?

I know it has posted several times about the widest tires you can put in, but does it make a difference if you use a shorter axle than stock? Can you fit even wider tires in there without trimming?

The axle length makes no difference. That's not what the tires hit against when they're too wide.

315 is about as wide as you can go. They come close to rubbing on the underside of the fender well lip at the outside top, and on the wheel housing at the front inside of the wheel well "frame" near where the control arm mounts.

I have stock Vette wheels, about 97 model, on my car; with that size tires on the rear. Stock disc brake rear from about 91 or 92, with 2" spacers. 1¾" spacers were too thin, the tires hit the inside place mentioned above, kind of alot in fact. With the 2" ones, they just barely hit the fender lip once in a very rare while.

I can't imagine that you could "trim" anything. You could roll the fender lip a little and it not look too stupid; but there's really nothing to "trim".

what about the max front size... ?

I would like same tires all around and to go nice an wide. I'm looking at a 295/50 R15...

could anyone reommmend min wheel width?
