Identify this carrier!!!!
As stated, I have searched and to no avail, so WTH kind of carrier is this thing???
The only markings I can find on this thing is J 5 -><- 10 352
Done a search on Google also, can't find a D**m thing. Any idea?
And yes I know its a series 2 carrier, but this thing had been upgraded with grade 8 bolts, but they stuck back in 2.73 for some odd reason. Nearly no wear whatsoever, didn't whine when the 86 was still alive.

What a piece of crap picture. Lemme guess, camera phone?
People have gotta stop using those POS's for taking pictures. Yea, they "can" do that, but they're so heinously bad that you might as well not even bother. Geez I hate that...

uhh, anyway, ahem, on the topic here, what did you get that carrier out of?
Can you get a clear picture of the "left" side from your view there? With a real camera?
I don't want to put any opinions on the line until I see a picture with some clarity, it just looks like a posi carrier of some sort now.

LOL it could have been from my phone camera, but actually it was a 3.1 megapixel camera. It sucks I know. I will get a better picture up here in a few minutes.

Sorry, this is the best ones I could get, I will try to borrow my buddies camera, its not nearly as crap-tastic. Trying to get in better without it getting blurrier is nearly impossible.

Eaton

It does seem to very closely resemble the eaton. Still pretty hard to identify with the quality of pics though...
At this point i would say 90% its eaton

It's not an Eaton.
It's an old stock Auburn one; looks like 2 series to me, by the shape of the ring gear flange (flat, not cone-shaped).

For comparison's sake, here's a couple of other Auburns.

The one on the left is a stock 2 series Auburn; the one on the right is a 3 series hi-perf. Note the difference inthe shape of the 2 ring gear flanges, and the additional springs in the one on the right.

Lets hope it will hold up to around 400hp, figured the axle would break before this carrier will. Gotta get a ring gear spacer and its gonna have 3.73s paired with it. Thanks for identifying it, I have another carrier that is stock as well, does not look anything like this one. That rear end is trashed, so this is the better of the two.
Are you parting out the trashed rearend??? Are the axle shafts for sale... I know I sound like a circling vulture but, I have had my '92 T/A on jackstands in my shop for 3 weeks looking for another 28spline for drum stule brakes that will work for the 2.73 geared carrier...

What brakes the axles came from doesn't matter, especially if you have drums.

Those axles I do not remember how many spline they are. Plus they are disc brakes. I think it was 89 that they were kinda mixed between 26 spline and 28 spline. I would have to do some work.

Glad I found this thread. I had my 84 rearend rebuilt sometime back and it's differential was changed for a carrier like these and I always wondered what kind it was. Mine more resembles the eaton though but then it doesnt, mine has all those springs but then it also has disc looking things in it. Well at least I know it's better then the stock unit now. And I can sell it for more to cover the cost of a 9 bolt for my car.
----------
one quik question
with a carrier designed for 3:73 gears what gears can I use with it. I'de like to go with 3.08 or 3.23. will either of these gear sets work on this 3.73 carrier
