Stupid rear end Question
ok let me start out that I have searched for this. there is a chance that I jsut didnt search enough thou.
so here it goes.
The car I have is a 6cyl car. I have read here that 6 cars rear end is jsut as strong as the 8 cyl car rear end.
What Rear end is it? how do I tell? how strong is it, how much Horse power can I put to it to take it to the edge of breaking. I am gonna be running a 10.5 slick on the car. The rear will have a lot of gear and full spool in it. the housing will be upgraded with trusses and will have some sort of traction control ..
Thanks for all your help guys!!!

The only way to tell is to pull the rear cover and count the splines, will you blow it, I highly doubt it unless you have a mean motor running alot of ponies.

It will be a 10bolt w/ 26spline axles. As for the gears you will have to pull the cover to find that out.
Running slicks its only a matter of time until it blows. Traction is the 10bolts worst enemy, you can put 1000hp through and not break it but a 4cyl can pile one up if it hooks...

what I am planning is running a built up small block with a bit of spray. I will be running the gears somewhere around a 4.88 or so with a full spool, the car is going to be a race car. Can I use that housing with different axles? is it worth using that 10bolt if I build the internals?
As far as the poines I am looking to be putting around 600 to the wheels. 4 from the motor and 2 with the spray.
Thanks

You can buy stronger aftermarket axles and a girdle for it, along with the tube bracing like you mentioned will all help to keep it together.
But im still not sure that would ever hold 600hp @ wheels, thats over 700@ the fly.
I would say if you want a bit of peace of mind your going to need to look into building up a 12bolt or a 9"
Or just go to the junkyard and get a whole stash of rearends and have a couple on hand at the races....
