wont shift into 4th when flooring it

I have heard that the 700r4 transmissions wont shift into fourth at full throttle . why is that? is there anyway to fix it?

There's a fix to it, but only if you don't really like your trans. 4th is overdrive, it was never meant to handle WOT. OD eats horsepower, 1:1(3rd) doesn't.

There's a 4th gear upshift sleeve available from a few manufacturer's, but it's usually not reccomended for engines over 250hp, because it's hard on the trans.

the above mentioned sleeve still does not allow for Full throttle 4th. it takes it from a 70% throttle shift and moves it to an 80% or 85% throttle downshift.. either way, you are driving alot faster than you need to be..

getting up to a very high speed very quickly is what driving a muscle car is about.

seeing how fast you can top out a car, is what being a pansy wannabe road racer is about. lol.

i wouldnt worry about it, your car doesnt make enough power to pull 4th at that speed anyway... thats what? 135ish at 5700ish?
even if you did make it shift to 4th... if you had the power to keep pulling, you would just burn up the transmission.

without an additional trans cooler, i wouldnt reccomend any prolonged highspeed hijinks with the 700R4 anyway... it really doesnt like it.

well, its not the quartermile, thats for sure.

im going to assume you mean road course.... i think you'll be better off raising the rev limiter (with better engine mods... aka a new motor) then trying to make that trans live under thoes conditions.

Shyt mine doesnt even shift into 2nd, 3rd, or 4th without letting off the gas.

OH YEAH....ITS A BUSTED TRANS. I am going to buy a new 700r4 and have the internals removed and replaced....anyone know a place that makes 700r4 internals that are badass.....?

If it's at the track. then fine. but you will never be able to pull even if it did shift into 4th.. your times would suffer.

you dont want to shift into 4th in the 1/4 mile. Even when I swapped to a 3.73, Im still in 3rd gear at the end of my run.

NICE!!! I rather enjoyed that. Gets up there pretty quick I would say. Now here is my question. How do you build up that top end?

That was a stock 305TPI/Auto with 3.73 gears. Only mods at the time were K&N air filter and the gears.
