T5 destruction

How much power has anyone seen a T5 withstand and for how long, mine is a 89 model, i guess a world class, i had it behind a 357, ported 042 heads w/202,160s, xe 236/242@.050 roller cam, it held so far with slicks, but how about my 383, vortec heads ported and polished, xe comp cam 230/236@.050, performer intake w/holly 750 dbl pumper, how long will this transmission last?I have retained a stock clutch for this reason.

People blow these thing up behing lil 170hp 305s!

Traction is the 3rd gen drivelines worst enemy. You could put a million horsepower through them until you get traction.

A couple of hard launches with good traction and pieces WILL fly!

Meh, yeah, lucky.

My Mustang's T5 has 230K miles on it. When I built the new motor, I was launching on BFG Comp T/A DR's and hooking up pretty good, dumping the clutch at 4K for several passes.

On the street, Id launch on SPRAY.....about one rotation of the tires, then dead hook and go. Granted, I KNOW its on its last leg as the case is leaky sometimes, the synchros grind, it vibrates cruising and I cant (nor can any of my friends) powershift it because its so ****ed....but it hasnt died yet HAHA

T5's are weak. Dont even waste time on "building" a T5....the cases are their main weak point.

I suggest a T56 if its a street/strip cruiser but if you want something that can take constant abuse, a Tremec TKO600 is the way to go. Just remember, you spin it above 5700-6K RPM and you wont be able to powershift AT ALL.....Trust me, I know. Friend of mine has one behind a 98 Vortech-powered cobra.....has to get it face plated.

Well i know the mustang t5 has a 1 1/16 input shaft, the camaro a 1 1/8 shaft, i dont think it makes a difference but a mustang should have less wear because of the weight difference, i want to go with a t56, but i will rock the t5 till then, i cannot shift it above 5500 rpm from 1st to 2nd it would grind, i was wondering why mine has lasted so long, i will stay from the track with the slicks till i get a gear and a t56, or use my th350 anyway, anyone have a 3.73 with posi carrier for sale on a 7.5?
